What does it mean to live a life with intention?

Everything we do in life has an intention behind it, frrom why you pick up the phone to call a friend, going to the gym with the intention to loose weight to practicing yoga with the intention of feeling more connected or perhaps relaxed.
Whether it is consciously or sub-consciously, life is all about intention.
Although how often do we take a step back and reassess that intention? Perhaps your like me and there are often times in life where you suddenly stop and think, why am i doing this again? Maybe a goal that was set many moons ago isn't relevant anymore or a job is no longer serving you or you feel like you are drifting through life without achieving the goals, aspirations or dreams that are in the depths of your heart.
How often does this intention that life is based upon get the recognition in our conscious minds as opposed to living somewhere in the depths of our sub conscious mind? How different would our days, months and years be if we move with clear intention, understanding of what it is we want to achieve/build or experience?

The ancient yogic texts, the Upanishads read 'You are what your deepest desire is. As your desire is, so is your intention. As your intention is, so is your will. As your will is, so is your deed. As your deed is, so is your destiny'

So as we move from 2015 into 2016 it is the perfect time to reflect upon what this past year has taught us and acknowledge all points of gratitude. Allowing us to move forward with what serves and let go of everything else that is better of left behind, setting our intentions for the year ahead.
This doesn't have to be a long process, it can be as simple as writing down 1 - 5 learnings you have had from 2015, things you are grateful for and then set out your intentions/goals that you would like to move into 2016 with.

If like me the days can run away with you and before you know it its lunchtime or even dinnertime and you're trying to think what you achieved, then bringing daily intentions into your morning is really powerful. Its something i have done for many moons and i cant recommend it enough. It gives you a few moments to listen within and understand what it is that's most important to you that day ( from deciding to do nothing and have a self care day to deciding how you are going to achieve a goal at work that you have been working on) it clarifies where you are headed and allows you to move with purpose, with solid intention.

I found this article from mind body green helpful with 5 tips to harness your intention, check it out below.

So whereever you are reading this in the globe, look up your local yoga studio for a new year intention setting offering,( my course here in Maroubra Beach, Sydney runs from the 11th - 15 Jan) and if you can't find one or you havent a studio nearby, perhaps create your own mini practice each morning for 5-10 minutes. Find a nice quiet space in your house or in nature, reflecting on and asking yourself how your days actions will move inline with your purpose.

I would love to hear your intentions or benefits, tips from the practice. You can catch me on helen@mahatma.yoga or on facebook under mahatma.yoga.

Happy New year all

Hells x
